Luana Alonso Announces Her Retirement From Swimming After Failing To Qualify At Olympics
I never fancied myself much of a Paraguayan swimming fan. That was until I learned about Luana Alonso. Back in 2020, Luana competed at the Tokyo Olympics. Back for more in 2024, she was ready to potentially make the podium for Paraguay (who has one medal in their country's Olympic history).
Before she swam in the butterfly, Luana went mega viral on Twitter:
35 million views. Not bad.
Unfortunately for the SMU swimmer, she did not make it past the heat stage in Paris. After failing to qualify further, Luana decided to hang it up:
She made it clear this decision was made before the Olympics!
Still an impressive career, nonetheless. Now she can go thrive as a college student at SMU. Who knows where life will take her next. If she needs someone to support her, I am making myself available.
