Take No Chances: Cyclist Had To Stop Mid-Race At The Olympics, Run Into A Packed Pub To Take A Dump

[Source] - Germany star Nils Politt rushed inside a packed pub to relieve himself during the men’s road race. The incident happened around halfway through the 280km race of attrition.

“I did not count how much time it took me,” Politt said.

“It was really warm, we were drinking a lot of water, ate a lot of gels and normally I don’t have problems. But today I had an upset stomach.”

I can't think of a worst time to have the runs. I think I'd take having to shit during sex before having to dump my brains out while cycling in the Olympics. It's the one sport you're stuck on your ass, you're in somewhat prime position to shit, it's the only thing I'd be thinking about. At the minimum you gotta lie about stomach issues. You can't have the world finding out you ran in that pub (which is apparently famous) to take a dump. Just say you had to go to the bathroom, leave it vague.

I do have questions though. Obviously guys have this happen to them when racing for roughly 6 hours. Everything is time oriented with them, he even says it in the quote. That's a risky game because do they wipe properly? You're all sticky from the sweat, wearing spandex, can't be a good time to wear white. Also why not just take as much Imodium and stuff like that as possible? Back yourself up for a day and then unleash hell when you're not sitting on a bike.

The more I think about it, the more I think this is the worst case scenario. It's hot, everyone knows that feeling. You get some rumblings in the stomach and you're outside? Just leave wherever you are and go home. I don't care how far away you are, get home. Get in air conditioning and your normal toilet. No one wants this feeling away from home. You want the comfort, the feeling of normalcy. For sure don't want a camera shoved in your face taping you running out of the pub to cheers and then having to answer questions about taking a dump.
