Haason Reddick Is A Liar And Nobody Will Want To Trade For Him Giving His Demands
I understand the reaction from the internet right now in regards to Haason Reddick demanding a trade.
"It's the same old Jets."
Now, I don't blame Jets fans or the haters (which there are many, SPECIFICALLY in the media) for reacting the way they are. It's easy to do that. You wouldn't have to think about the situation for very long outside of your first reaction. It's a surface-level, safe take. Congratulations!
The media is creaming their pants right now. They are so excited to do 24-48 hours on the Jets messing up yet another situation! HAHAHAHA LMAO JETS! YES COME WATCH OUR SHOW THAT HAS BEEN DROPPING IN VIEWERSHIP FOR YEARS! HERE'S A RETIRED NFL PLAYER YOUVE NEVER HEARD OF TELLING YOU HOW BAD THIS IS FOR THE JETS!
What they won't tell you is this: Haason Reddick is a liar. He lied to the Jets. He lied to Joe Douglas. He lied to the fans. He lied to the media. He knows this as there are next to no reports in his favor. Nobody has released a report saying how badly the Jets have wronger Haason Reddick. He's represented by Jimmy Sexton at CAA! You think they don't have the necessary resources to put out their side of the story? Of course, they do! But guess what? They don't have a side. They know how bad this looks on them. They know this is bad business.
Let me tell you why.
When Haason Reddick was introduced to the Jets, this is what he said:
Reddick has done nothing but lie since trade talks began.
Rich Cimini reported in June that Reddick gave the Jets his "word" that he'd be at the "offseason stuff."
He didn't go.
The Jets made it clear to Reddick that they want to extend him long-term, but would prefer to do it after the season.
Reddick still agreed on the trade.
Reddick came to the introductory press conference and then LIED to the fans of the Jets.
Now, he is requesting a trade after not showing up to camp. What does he want? $25 million per year. That request is so funny that teams aren't even considering to trade for him.
Now, Reddick is stuck with the Jets. He thinks he has leverage over the Jets due to JFM and Bryce Huff being gone. With his previous price tag scoffed at, and running away from now two teams, I don't think he will garner a lot of interest. The Jets know this too.
Does Joe Douglas deserve some blame for this? Of course, when you're the boss, you get blamed no matter what, and he looks like the sucker here. This game isn't over, though. It's not like he gave up a 1st round pick for this guy. Reddick came to the Jets on a conditional 3rd-round pick. If he doesn't play, then who knows what that may be. Oh, boohoo, the Jets lost a 6th round pick. Joe Douglas' biggest crime is letting John Franklin Myers go without having Reddick locked up. That risk was not worth it.
Even after acknowledging the Jets sins here, the leverage is in the their corner. If Reddick does not want to play a full season in his money-making years, then so be it. Sit on the bench. The leverage you have is the Jets will be a worse team without you, but this isn't some life-or-death situation. Are the Jets a better team with Reddick on the field? Yes, but how much better? A point? Half a point? Ask yourself how much of an effect would Reddick have on a line if he didn't play.
Do I want to see Michael Clemons rushing the passer in September? Of course not, but this is a business. The Jets aren't going to roll over for Haason Reddick, and I don't blame them.
