BOOM: The Falcons Get Matthew Judon for a 3rd Round Pick and Might Actually Be Good
Oh baby, the Falcons might be BACK. Kirk Cousins, Kyle Pitts, Bijan Robinson and Drake London now featuring a serviceable defense with a legitimate pass rush. Let's ride.
I am choosing to pretend Matthew Judon was Atlanta's 2024 first round pick. And he somehow comes with 32 sacks in his last 38 NFL games despite being a first year player! What a steal! Sure, you could have had him plus an actual first round pick like Rome Odunze and the team would be even more disgusting, but this is something at least.
I was actually really excited about watching Bralen Trice after the Falcons drafted him in the third round this year, but getting an All-Pro to replace Trice after he suffered a torn ACL in training camp isn't a bad deal, either. And the third rounder Atlanta is giving up for Judon is obviously really valuable in a league where undrafted guys become stars all the time, but if whoever you had taken with that pick turned into Judon one day, that would have been a grand slam of a pick. This is a no-brainer.
Fuck, am I excited about the Atlanta Falcons? I know there's a zero percent chance this ends well and I'm sure they'll find ways to lose this season that nobody has ever fathomed before, but I still feel something a little different deep inside. Maybe the team that drafted a quarterback No. 8 overall after signing another one to a $180 million contract was cooking something, after all.
