THIS LEAGUE: The Biggest Triathlon Rivalry Gets Fuel Added To The Fire After This Early Celebration

Great Britain's Alex Yee just won the gold medal for the triathlon at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He did so by edging out Hayden Wilde from New Zealand by 6 seconds. Apparently Wilde had the lead for most of the race at the Olympics, but Alex Yee turned on the jets with a little over 2km to go to take that top spot. It was something like a 14-second lead which was erased, so obviously this Hayden Wilde fella probably feels like he got that gold medal stolen right off his neck.

Fast forward a couple of weeks and now they're competing again in this SuperTri league. Once again, Hayden Wilde is in the lead and probably feels like he's about to avenge his 2nd place finish at the Olympics. And then…out of nowhere at the very last turn…

Alex Yee turns on the jets and overtakes him again. Hayden Wilde has nothing left in the tank and can't do anything but watch as Yee crosses his arms and struts his ass across that finish line with as much sass as humanly possible. This is the face of a man (in red) who is going to be up all night thinking about all the things he should have done and/or said in that moment to get back at the one man who has single-handedly been ruining his life lately.

It's going to be 1:30am every night for the rest of his life and he's still going to be thinking about this moment. Should he have thrown a punch? Should he have at least gotten in his face and talked a little shit? Should he have done anything but just stand there and take it with a disgusted look on his face? He'll constantly be thinking about how he'd handle that moment differently.

The good news, however, is it seems like there are only so many elite triathletes who compete against each other all the time. So he'll probably have another chance to see Alex Yee in another couple of weeks. I've never once in my life been interested in a triathlon, but now I can't wait to see how that one plays out. Something tells me some fireworks are on the way.
