Tom Brady Dunking In Jeans At Age 47 Is Yet Another Reason Why He's The Absolute GOAT
Alright, what the hell. Just when you think the 20 years of dominance on the football field on his way to becoming the GOAT would be enough, here Tom Brady is at 47 years old doing something that to me might be the most impressive athletic feat he's ever accomplished. Winning handfuls of Super Bowls? Yawn. Setting a million different NFL records? Big deal.
But dunking in jeans at 47 years old? Now we're talking. I find this way more impressive than anything Brady did during his football playing days, and I don't even care how high that rim actually was. Looked like 10ft to me from where I sit, and even if it was 9'5 that's still impressive as hell and also not even remotely surprising that Brady could pull it off that flawlessly. He's the GOAT for a reason. Some guys just have all the luck where whatever they do they end up being awesome at it. Not a bad way to live if you ask me as someone who absolutely cannot relate. I'm remarkably average at pretty much everything and that's on a good day. Tom Brady rolls out of bed in the morning and is elite in every facet of life. Must be nice.
After watching this video a few times, I'm not sure what I find more impressive. The fact that at age 47 Brady can still get up like that and not tear every ligament in his leg certainly stands out. Just this morning I could barely walk down my stairs for fear of tearing my achilles and I'm a decade younger than Brady. As soon as I hit my mid-30s everything in my body has gone to complete shit. I have zero idea why my achilles would be so tight/sore every morning despite me doing absolutely nothing, but I'll tell you this, I'm not going to do a damn thing about it other than complain on the internet that's for damn sure. I'd say by looking at Brady in that clip he takes about a billion times better care of his body even at age 47, so maybe there actually is something to the TB12 method. I'm obviously not going to ever try it, but it looks to be working pretty well for Tom.
Then of course there's the jeans aspect. These are not just normal jeans but are some pretty tight skinny jeans. I don't care what you're doing, if you pull off any sort of athletic feat wearing tight-ass jeans, my moron brain instantly thinks it's more impressive. If he were wearing normal gym shorts I feel like it wouldn't quite hit the same. The jeans are an important part of the equation here.
Now, let's talk about the actual dunk. As we do with all of these types of plays, it starts with the launch point. It's tough to tell from that angle, but it looks like we're dealing with something right outside what would be the restricted area?
That matters to me because it's not like Brady simply went right under the hoop and jumped straight up. This dunk required some hang time not seen since Vince Carter's 2000 Dunk Contest
(pause for the mandatory Dunk Contest highlights)
In terms of the finish, this wasn't a Blake Griffin "throw-the-ball into the rim" type dunk. It was as textbook and as clean as you would want to see with something like this
Fully cleared the rim, grabbed the rim perfectly, I give that finish a 10 out of 10 with no notes. Again, this man is 47 years old.
Some of the responses to this video are what you would expect from people who are probably still not over the fact that Brady dominated their favorite football team for 20 years. Talking about how this isn't impressive because Brady is 6'5 and blah blah blah. OK losers, you go out and dunk cleanly off one foot at age 47. I bet you can't
After watching that video I can now only assume that Brady is also going to be awesome in the booth calling games. I'm not really sure what the connection is there, but it's just a feeling I have in my gut. The guy is awesome at everything and seems to be aging backwards so I have to imagine that's going to translate into the booth.
Now for your viewing pleasure, let's enjoy Brady's Top 100 plays because why the hell not
