Add Kevin Garnett To The List Of Former Players Who Went In On Anthony Edwards For Disrespecting The Legends Of The NBA
Who knew that what should have been mostly a throwaway comment by Anthony Edwards would end up being so controversial? Part of me thinks the reaction we're seeing from all these legends in response to Ant's rather ridiculous statement last week
is because we are right smack in the middle of the true dead part of the NBA schedule (camp opens in a month), but with nothing else to really focus on, they all seem to have the time to get some shots in as a response. Yesterday we covered Isiah Thomas and Magic Johnson's responses
both of which were understandable. It's not a surprise that someone like Magic would be rather offended by what Ant said, so he went for the kill. All fair in the shit talking game as far as I'm concerned.
Well, now it's time to add another legend into the mix. At first, I was a little shocked considering their Timberwolves connection, but like Magic, Kevin Garnett did not hold back either
Now that's a rant! Sadly, I have to disagree with KG when he said that nobody from this generation could have played 20 years ago. This is sort of what I talked about yesterday. Whenever players from different eras talk about the other, they always say shit like this and it never makes any sense. If you're dominant in 2024, I'm pretty sure you could have found a way to find your way onto the court in the 90s. I'm to believe that LeBron wouldn't be able to play? Sorry KG, but I watched the Celtics barely win 15 games in the 90s so I'm pretty sure the worst NBA player in 2024 would be able to play for those teams.
Whenever an older generation player says stuff like that they always talk about how it was too physical a game and new age players wouldn't be able to handle that, and I find that to be pretty silly. Outside of that one little comment though? KG was spot on. When he went off talking about the difference in levels you needed to be successful offensively, it couldn't have been truer. Taking away hand-checking makes a massive difference. Someone dribbling 1000 times and going nowhere doesn't make someone more "skilled" just because they were more practical and efficient back in the day.
Given all the comparisons that continue to happen between Ant and MJ, it's pretty interesting to hear the difference in their approach to talking about the previous generation of players. Ant as we know thinks everyone outside of MJ was mostly dogshit, MJ on the other hand?
That's a guy who deep down knows he's the badest motherfucker on the planet but doesn't need to chop the previous era down just for attention.
