The Blazers Are The Latest NBA Team To Drop An Awesome Behind The Scenes Look At Their 2024 Draft
About a week ago, I wrote a blog after the Suns released their own version of a Hard Knocks style look into their 2024 NBA Draft, suggesting that every other team in the NBA immediately needed to follow suit.
Sometimes folks, your prayers get answered. Is it possible I am the only person on the planet praying for something like this when football season just started? Perhaps, but the heart wants what the heart wants and I am someone who craves behind the scenes access of NBA front offices. I can't get enough.
So I would like to thank the Portland Trail Blazers for answering that call and becoming the next team to drop an inside look at their 2024 Draft process
I'm not even a Blazers fan and I loved that shit. If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times, this is the content we as fans crave. Or at the very least it's something that I personally crave and would like teams to continue producing. We've all pretended we could do this job and should be the ones making the decisions for our favorite teams, but unfortunately, that's not reality. The next best thing we have are these behind-the-scenes mini-series that are becoming more and more common in the new sports media world. The internet and new media as a whole may be a disaster, but shit like this is for sure one of the benefits.
In terms of the actual pick, it's still a little early to determine if the Blazers have any fucking idea what they're doing as a franchise, so time will tell. I like Clingan as a player and am intrigued in terms of what he could develop into as a young new era center given what we saw from him in Vegas
But their overall roster still has some confusing spots. By taking a center this high in the Draft you would think it's now time to flip either Rob Williams (sigh) or Ayton for additional assets you can use on your rebuild. There's no need for a high-priced guy like Jerami Grant on this roster anymore when contenders need wing help, so you may as well flip him as well and play your young wings so they can get their reps.
In theory, if your young guys end up being draft hits, a collection of Scoot Henderson/Donovan Clingan/Shaedon Sharpe/Anfernee Simons/Deni Advija isn't the worst group if you're projecting 3-4 years down the line. They may not win shit at this stage of their rebuild, but that's what happens once your team enters this stage. Building through the Draft takes time and it takes losses, that's just the way it goes.
As far as I'm concerned though, I don't care if the Blazers only win 20 games as long as we get more content like this moving forward. And just like I said after the Suns one, we need to continue to see teams drop these videos. We all know the footage exists, well let's see it. Blur out the important shit and release it to the public. It's time.
