Dave Grohl Has Another Confession To Make: He Fathered A Baby Out Of Wedlock

I just finished recording this week's episode of 'The Bracket' with KenJac and company, and picked my phone up to an unusual amount of unread messages. Four of those texts were about Dave Grohl specifically, but vague enough where I had no idea what was happening. Just a bunch of "Dave Grohl - FUUUUUCK!" and "Damn. Dave Grohl." messages, all somber and confusing. My heart dropped, and I assumed the worst - that he somehow tragically died this afternoon.

Morbid? Yes, of course. I haven't gotten texts like that since Taylor Hawkins died, though!

Thankfully, that was NOT the case - and the texts were simply referring to Dave Grohl's public announcement that he has recently fathered a child out of wedlock. It's actually an unreal (almost funny) statement, because it's just so matter of fact....

Obviously not great, and I would never condone cheating on your significant other - but going from thinking one of my idols is dead to finding out he's an adulterer reeeaaally softened the blow. Almost to the point where this doesn't feel worth the somber texts I received.

Like I know Dave Grohl's public persona has been super wholesome for the past couple decades, and he's everybody's mom's favorite rockstar and all - but he's still a rockstar at the end of the day. Sleeping around and having kids outta wedlock has its own chapter in the book of rock n' roll; I mean, Liam Gallagher, for example, had a daughter out of wedlock who he didn't even meet until she turned 20 a few years ago! If you hated every rockstar who behaved similarly, you wouldn't have a very big catalogue to choose from on Spotify. At least Dave is committed to being a present father.

Again, not to downplay this and say it's just a nothing-burger to defend my guy - it's a really horrible thing to do to the mother of his children AND his daughters - but I'm also not shocked. Rockstar does rockstar shit, ya know? Don't expect punk rockers to have the best moral barometer, even if it seems like they may.

Wishing the best for the whole Grohl family as they get through this. It's gotta be real shitty on the kids and I feel especially bad for them. Hopefully things are able to improve in the coming months.
