HOLY SHIT: Virginia Tech Completes an Insane Hail Mary To Seemingly Beat Miami Before the Call Is Reversed After a Controversial Review
Holy shit. This is college football!!!
That's one of the most insane and stupid endings to a game I've ever seen. Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry managed the clock like a certified moron all the way down the field and nearly fucked his team out of any chance to even have an attempt at a Hail Mary. Then Kyron Drones lobs it up on the final play and somebody caught it, but nobody — including the officials — could really tell who. Then, the refs decide it's a touchdown 30 seconds later, seemingly just guessing after a Miami defender had run out of the pile with the ball. The review showed the ball coming out of the receiver's hands at the end, but it looked like it was potentially after he had already completed the catch and the ruling was going to stand to cement the most insane ending of the season.
And then to top it all off, they came back after a five-minute review and said the call on the field was overturned. I love the beautiful stupidity of this sport.
Both teams did absolutely everything they could to try to lose that game and the ending was more than befitting of that. I'm still trying to process the entire last two minutes, let alone the last play.
That was potentially an incomplete pass, but there definitely was not indisputable video evidence to overturn the touchdown in my opinion. That seemed like the quintessential situation where whatever was called on the field would stand after review, but the ACC Replay Center decided to go ahead and overturn the call and give the win to Miami — who is absolutely on Fraud Watch now, by the way.
What a play. This is ONLY Friday!
