Netflix Gave Us A 5 Minute "Sneak Peek" Into Their New 'Starting 5' Series And As Expected It Looks Incredible

When Netflix first announced that they were releasing an NBA version of their "Quarterback" and "Receiver" behind-the-scenes documentary that was following LeBron/Tatum/Ant/Butler/Sabonis throughout the 2024 NBA season, I of course was over the moon. This announcement was well before the Celts ended up actually winning the title, so going through that whole run while knowing that there were cameras capturing all this incredible footage made the raging Porzingis in my pants even harder.

My excitement around the series took a temporarily hit once we got the first "trailer", which I blogged at the time could go down as one of the worst promos in the history of promos

I mean, everything about that is horrendous. Compared to what we were given with the NFL shows, it was a disaster. Fake text trends in 2024? I'm not sure who approved that promo but that person might be blind. A few weeks later it seemed like Netflix heard the public shitting all over their new show, because they released another promo that was way more in line with what we got in the football ones

Much better and just like that, my excitement was back to being through the roof. Granted I'm admittedly a gigantic slut for pretty much any and all behind-the-scenes documentaries/series regardless of the sport, but especially basketball. Inject them all right into my veins. It's one of the best parts of media in 2024 if you ask me. Players making their own docs, filmmakers giving us docs/series about prior legends, it's all fantastic.

So naturally as we sit here 2 days away from Netflix releasing 'Starting 5' it's the perfect time for them to give us another teaser, this time giving us a sneak peek at the first 5 minutes of the series

Now this is what I'm talking about! I know there was some pushback over the players they chose, but I think Netflix nailed it for this first season and this sneak peek pretty much confirms it. The access looks like it's going to be insane, the moments all of these guys had during 2024, it sure as shit looks like it's going to deliver on a similar level to the NFL ones, which I thought were awesome.

So while it's certainly not surprising, consider me back to being all in on 'Starting 5'. Sure a big part of that is the fact that the Celts won the title and I cannot wait to see all the behind-the-scenes footage of Tatum during that run, but given what we've seen so far I'm intrigued by everyone else's story as well. Wednesday can't come soon enough.
