A Man Claims To Have Climbed Mount Everest In His Own Home, And I Have Some Issues

UPI News - A Las Vegas man spent nearly 23 hours going up and down the stairs in his home to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to ascend and descend the height of Mount Everest on stairs.

Sean Greasley had to climb -- and descend -- a distance of 29,031 feet and 5.5 inches on the stairs in his home to match the height of the world's tallest mountain.

"I decided to break this record because nobody has done this before, not from sea level anyway," Greasley told Guinness World Records. "I wanted to raise money for suicide prevention, so I figured I would combine these two goals into one major goal. We were nearing the end of COVID-19 and I was having a lot of mental problems and issues, which is why this charity is very close to my heart."

Ok let's first say this is a great endeavor by this guy raising money for suicide prevention. It goes without saying suicide is a horrible way to lose someone and anything we can do to help prevent that is a good thing. So kudos to this guy for raising money for that. We need to do as much as we can to support mental health.

Now, with all that said we can say that this "world record" is as fugazy as fugazy gets. Don't get me wrong climbing for 29,000 feet is a hard thing to do, and to do it for 23 hours is brutal. However, the thing that makes Mount Everest so difficult is the conditions. Climbing inside is one thing, but the minute you step outside it's a different element. Don't believe me just look:

So while this guy did something impressive, make no bones about it, he didn't climb Mount Everest. Not even close, and again I support this guy and all he's doing, but this is like saying you played in an NBA Game when you went to the park for 48 minutes and mimicked making tough moves ... on air. It's just not the same thing. This cannot be a world record. Plain and simple.
