Nick Wright Says Nobody Can Criticize Bob Costas Because He's a Legend, Despite the Fact That He Currently Sucks Ass at Calling Baseball Games

This is one of the oddest takes I've ever seen, even from Nick Wright. He basically says Bob Costas and Al Michaels are immune from criticism because they've been calling games for decades and have been, at one point, very good at it.

I'm not the biggest Michaels fan on Thursday Night Football, but I'm not even going to bring him up again because the guy everyone is currently shitting on is Costas for his call of the ALDS between the Yankees and Royals. Let's take a look at some of the highlights to see if those criticisms are fair or completely unwarranted:

Oh, ok, so he's actually been terrible.

I genuinely don't understand the argument that Costas is immune from criticism because he was a great broadcaster for a long time. The fact that he's in his 70s is exactly the point. Wright is maybe not the best person to use for this example because he's the world's foremost LeBron James stan account incarnate, but if the Lakers signed a 54-year-old LeBron averaging 2.7 points per game to a max contract, it would be very weird to say that move must be commended because of what he's done in the past. And yet, that's exactly the argument being used here.

It's ok to admit when people are past their prime and should probably give something up. It doesn't mean Bob Costas didn't have an incredible broadcasting career, it just means he's no longer at the top of his game and should probably step aside so someone more equipped can do it.
