The NBA Is Releasing A 9 Part Documentary Series 'Raising 18' To Honor The NBA Champions And It Looks INCREDIBLE

The NBA season officially opens one week from today, and once that happens the book will finally be closed on the 2023-24 season. But until 10/22 arrives and we all collectively watch the NBA Champion Boston Celtics receive their rings and raise Banner 18 to the rafters forever, there's still plenty of time to keep dipping into the well of one of the most dominant seasons in NBA history (fact, not opinion).

While I'm sure 99% of opposing fanbases are tired of celebrating the champs and hearing all about their journey to a league-leading 18th championship, I also happen to not give a single fuck. We waited 16 years for this, having to live through multiple horrific losses on the biggest stage after getting closer and closer for so many years you bet your ass I'm going to milk this thing for every last drop and apologize for nothing. If you don't like it, pray your favorite team beats the Celts 4 out of 7 times (they probably won't).

You know who agrees? The NBA. This entire offseason has been nothing but Celtics porn everywhere you look and frankly, it's one of the best parts of winning the title. Give me ALL of the behind-the-scenes documentaries and shows. We had the 5 episode "All In" series from the team which was incredible, we just had a look at Tatum's journey during 'Starting 5', ESPN put out a series 'Clutch: The NBA Playoffs' that followed Jaylen Brown, and now the NBA is releasing a 9 part documentary series about the 2023-24 Celts that's being narrated by the one and only Al Horford.

Listen, you tell me there's another documentary about this legendary season, I'm in without needing to see a single frame. You also tell me it's being narrated by Al Horford and I'm ready to declare it the greatest documentary in the history of documentaries. I'm not sure what I was expecting this to be, but it certainly wasn't a 9 part series 

The wait is almost over. Get ready to relive the magic of last year’s title chase with this first-look trailer at ‘Raising 18,’ the new NBA original series streaming Oct. 20, exclusively on the NBA App.

Narrated by Al Horford, the nine-episode project provides an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the Celtics’ 2023-24 season, starting with the offseason acquisitions of Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday and culminating in the franchise capturing its record-breaking 18th NBA crown.

From preseason training camp all the way to Game 5 of the NBA Finals, experience the Celtics’ historic journey to the NBA mountaintop through the eyes of the players, coaches and team staff who made it happen.

The 2023-24 Celtics campaign was one for the ages. The team’s core of new faces, tenured veterans and proven superstars came together to win 80 combined regular season & playoff games, becoming just the 14th team in league history to do so. 

“Every championship has a story,” Horford said. This is one you won’t want to miss.

and now that the first official trailer is out there's a chance this might be the best offseason doc yet

Holy shit do my goosebumps have goosebumps. 

Keep in mind that there are also two more documentaries that Wyc Grousbeck and the team are working on but those aren't due out for quite a while so in the meantime, I cannot think of a better way to get ready for the upcoming season then a 9 part series diving into the champs' season. Again, I understand a lot of people are ready to move on and pretend like the Celts didn't win the title last year, but the sooner you realize we're only at the beginning of the Tatum/Brown reign over the NBA the sooner you'll be able to come to grips with the fact that there's a good chance more of these documentaries are in your future.

Tough situation for the haters and losers of which there are still many, fantastic situation for Celts fans everywhere.

I will say, it's a little bullshit that this is on the NBA App when last time I checked the NBA had their own TV channel/network, but whatever. That's an easy workaround. 

If we could get serious for a second to close out this blog, all of this still feels so surreal. From June 17th on, life has pretty much been a dream. Whatever your wildest dreams were for the 2023-24 Celtics heading into the season, they couldn't have possibly been what the team actually did. They weren't just dominant, they were historically dominant. They didn't just win the title, they lost only 3 games along the way. People go their entire lives and never experience an NBA season like the 2023-24 Celts, and only a handful of fanbases have ever seen something similar. That's why whatever you do, do not take it for granted. We'll probably never see a season like that again, and that's even if the Celts are fortunate enough to repeat. 

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go change my shorts after watching that trailer.
