Men Can Cry Too: Nick Chubb's Message In The Players Tribune About Paying Cleveland Back Had Me In Tears This Morning

Look I don't really know the rules of how much I can post from Nick Chubb's letter to Cleveland in the Player's Tribune, so I'm just going to link it here, highlight my favorite parts, and an order another box of Tissues to be sent to the New York Office from Amazon....because my eyes are tear filled. Chubb is set to return to the field, and his "Cleveland Got My Back" message might be the greatest headline I've read since the heyday of this blog was running 10+ years ago. By the way, are we hiring writers? Nick Chubb would be a great fit here! I mean, he got me to laugh right out of the gate with describing how he realized the severity of his injury:

But now I got Steelers praying over me? That’s when you know it’s serious. The dark thoughts start creeping in.

It got me to laugh, but then it made me sad. I really don't hate the Steelers anymore. I grew up hating them. I was taught to hate them. But the Browns have been so bad over the course of my lifetime that I really can't hate anyone more than my own team in Cleveland. Anyways, he goes on to talk about his time at Georgia, his injury, LeBron tweeting about him getting hurt, his family, etc etc etc. And then he got to his grandma, who he moved in with, and how he was essentially the Bart Simpson on the chalkboard meme writing "I WILL NOT talk back to my grandma" over and over and over. Doing chores, learning lessons, not having money for the easy way out. I see why Nick Chubb is such a humble, disciplined, good guy....his grandma wouldn't put up with him any other way.

BUT THE POINT OF THE BLOG is how he ended the letter, and how the Browns chose to keep Nick Chubb, and never thought about cutting him, because of how much he means to Cleveland.

When my agent called me to tell me the news, he said, “I’ve never actually had a front office tell me anything like this. But they said that part of the reason they never entertained cutting you is because of how much you mean to the city.”

And Nick Chubb understands that. That's why he recognizes that since everyone in Cleveland had his back…..it's now his turn to pay us back. TEARS!

**Now it must be said: how the fuck is he going to pay us back? We're 1 and fucking 5….we haven't scored 20 points in one game all season….we have the worst quarterback in the NFL….and we haven't even played 1 game in the brutal AFC North yet. Legitimately, what is the point of bringing back Chubb at this point when we quite literally have already concluded our season and thrown in the towel? What is out record going to be at the end of this……?

I see 9 guaranteed losses and potentially 2 games that could be considered a toss up. I wish Nick Chubb's return could rejuvenate this season but I'm afraid it's too far gone. And we deepened our hole by trading Amari Cooper yesterday. Nick Chubb is returning to "pay Cleveland back" but we're too far in debt for anything to matter.
