The News That Jerry Reinsdorf Is Open To Selling The White Sox Is A Big Ol' Nothingburger

Yesterday around 3:30pmCST, I was in the midst of a contentious snake draft. Because I attack every snake draft with razor sharp precision and strive to bring pinpoint dialogue when debating things like, "ugliest names for women" and what-have-you, I didn't have Twitter open.

That's when Chief dropped a scud missile on my head: Jerry Reinsdorf is open to selling the Chicago White Sox.

I honestly didn't have too much of a reaction. Because I had zero time to gather any information (aka open up Twitter on a new tab), I assumed it was bullshit. Throughout the years, I've been told ad nauseam that Jerry Reinsdorf will not sell the Chicago White Sox due to the tax burden his kid - the heir to the controlling stake of the org - would inherit.

So why, on October 17th, 2024, are there reports that Jerry is "open" to selling to a group lead by Dave Stewart? Wtf? Have all Sox fans prayers been answered?

Well…a clickbait headline would instantly make you think "maybe?" but then you dig under the hood and find out that Dave Stewart has lead the charge to bring baseball to Nashville.

I will say this here: I have no idea how a multi-billion dollar sale works. Obviously. If what you've seen on me on the internet is true, you all are fully aware that I helplessly piss and shit myself when I wake up every morning. With that said, there are ample resources across the internet to really break down the ins and outs of what a potential sale of the White Sox would look like. Though I don't necessarily agree with everything in this article, Josh Nelson and Jim Margalus have done a great job breaking down a potential sale in layman's terms and after consuming their breakdowns & talking to my "people" in and around the organization who are smarter and more in the know than I am, I've come to this conclusion:

A move to Nashville IS NOT happening. Not with the White Sox.

Nashville might will get a baseball team. There's a non-zero chance the White Sox move one day. But it will NOT be to Nashville.

It's a scare tactic to try to get Pritzker and his people to cave to Jerry's financial requests (demands?) for a property at the 78th. This exact tactic worked with Gov. Thompson in the late 80s. I don't think it works this time. I would bet the state and city tell him to fuck off.

In the end, gun to head - the Sox are playing at the 78th plot come 2030.

So all in all…this is a big nothingburger. At least to me, and at least right now.
