Last Night Embodied The Unique Euphoria And Devastation That Comes With Postseason Baseball

Taking the Yankee cap off for a second here to just appreciate how good postseason baseball is. That was one of the best late, back and forth games you'll ever see in October. All the dramatics. The star power in New York coming through while the scrappy Guardians do their thing that's got them here and find a way to pull it out. From the 8th inning on that game was an all-time classic.

Judge coming through to tie the game was unbelievable. 99 mph cutter on the outer black from the best closer in the game and he rips it just over the right field wall to level the score. It was his first real signature postseason moment and it was special.

Stanton's back to back homer was just as awesome. It's truly something how dangerous this man becomes in October. Could look like he's never swung a bat in July, but when the season is on the line he turns back the clock and becomes a legitimate monster. Again, Klemmer said he shouldn't be rostered on an MLB roster this year.

I couldn't control my heart rate. If I had one of those whoop monitors on I'd be rushed into surgery at the ER.

They even added an additional run with some great situational hitting by Gleyber to work a deep count and find a ball to drive, which brought home Volpe. Unfortunately we know that wasn't enough. A hanging changeup from Weaver that never dove had Big Christmas swinging for Saturn and connecting.

Once in extras, the Yankees threatened and were nearly set up after this Jazz tricky roller in the hole. I didn't mention this last night, but it really might have saved the game for Cleveland. Gimenez is one of the best defensive 2nd baseman in the game, if not the best. Part of the Guardians calling card is spectacular defense. It hadn't really shown til this point, but the Cleveland 2nd baseman shined brightest when he had to. Just to prevent this from getting to the outfield was impressive, but getting off an accurate throw to first was insane. Naylor switching his feet and keeping a toe on the bag to get the out was crazy. All around just an amazing play by Cleveland.

And then Clay Holmes threw the worst sinker he's fired off a David Fry to pummel.

Crazy game man. Truly the embodiment of what makes postseason baseball better than anything else in the world. The ups and downs, 180 swings, rollercoaster of emotions, thoughts of pure bliss, only to turn to devastating misery. Enough to kill a man.

Don't get me wrong, that ending sucked. There was a part of me that thought if a fire escape collapsed onto me while I walked home it wouldn't have been the worst outcome. That's what these games do to you. I went home, watched postgame interviews, and gummied myself to sleep. When I woke up today I realized that the Yankees still have a 2-1 lead in the series. Normally when they lose like that in the playoffs it's in Houston to end a season. The fact that it was only Game 3 is escaping some people. Everyone just take a deep breath and reset.

Tonight's game should be chaos. Luis Gil hasn't pitched since September 28th and Gavin Williams September 22nd. Bullpens are fried and exposed. That Cleveland crowd will be rocking. I need the bats to jump out early and erase all the bad moments from last night. They haven't had a true explosion yet, so I'm asking for one now. Juan Soto was quiet last night and I think he takes over in Game 4. We'll be streaming tonight once again, come watch us live and die with every pitch.

P.S. I hope a game like last night finally put the thought in everyone's mind that Brian Anderson is the best in the business. It's not only night and day to Costas, but he really might be better than everyone else right now. Kevin Harlan is awesome, Joe Buck is great for NFL still, Mike Breen is a beast for NBA, but BA does it all and never disappoints. He elevates a broadcast with his calls. He just got a big extension at TNT the other day so we'll be hearing him for a long time to come.
