Anthony Edwards Suggests He'll One Day Leave The NBA For The NFL

There is no denying that Anthony Edwards is electric. From how he plays on the court to the fact that he's a quote machine whenever he steps in front of the camera, he's about as must watch as it gets. So does it surprise anyone that Ant is talking like this? Of course not. He's talked about how good he is at football before and I have no doubt that he could find success in the NFL if he were to dedicate himself to it, but let's get one thing straight.

He's full of shit in that clip.

Not because of the Wolves winning a title in 3-4 years part. Who knows what can happen and they are certainly on the short list of on paper contenders as we enter the 2024-25 NBA season. I mean shit they just made the WCF last year so it's not totally out of the realm of possibility as Edwards gets closer to his NBA prime years.

The bullshit part of course is that Ant is not going to leave the NBA in 3-4 years regardless of what happens with the Wolves in the postseason. For starters and obvious reasons, he's not going to willingly give up this type of guaranteed money

Even if it takes him to the latter part of his current extension, we're talking $50M+ guaranteed. You're going to give that up to play in the NFL where your contract is worth less than the paper it's written on? I don't think so. I don't care how much you think you can dominate the NFL, you don't pass that up.

That's only part of the story top. If Ant develops like we think he all will, he's going to make an All NBA team at some point during that extension. You know what that means? It means at some point over the course of that 5 year extension, Ant is going to become supermax eligible. By that time, supermax contracts could very well get as high as $350M-$400M…again guaranteed. That 3-4 year timeframe is right around when I would expect Ant to be eligible for that extension, so no, I don't think he's going to bypass that payday either just to try his luck at football.

But hey, it's a fun clip that'll go viral and helps show Ant's personality which will have people on the internet doing their usual routing whenever Ant does literally anything, including breathe. Talk about the face of the league, aura etc. Not so much talk about how he faded down the stretch of the WCF and cost his team a Finals appearance, but at the end of the day he's 22 and is still in the early ascension into his stardom (which is why this is a HUGE year for him imo).

As a basketball fan, I selfishly would never want this to happen. Ant is too electric on the court to only have 3-4 more years of this which would take us into the early prime years

So sadly, I'm going to have to call bullshit on this claim. Fun to think about I guess, but I'm going to give it a 0.0% chance, even with a potential Wolves title. This is basically a redo of the LeBron/NFL debate that we had for nearly two decades, so maybe this is just Ant's way of trying to pick up the torch and keeping that conversation going with the next generation.

Then again, knowing Wolves fan's luck this probably somehow ends up happening. Given how starved that city is for a title, if there could be a way to guarantee Ant goes to the Vikings after bringing the Wolves their first ever title, maybe they'd be OK with it.
