The Mets Magical Season Comes To An End In LA And Everything Hurts

Fuck man. Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. I’ve lived through some pretty magical seasons as a Mets fan along with some playoff runs that definitely felt M word worthy. But nothing felt like THIS. From Seymour Weiner on Opening Day to Rally Pimp to Candelita to Grimace to Hawk Tuah, everything was just fun.

Not only was the Meme Team fun but so was the actual baseball team, who had the best record in baseball from June 1st and led MLB in comeback wins for the season. The rotation full of number threes somehow pitched like number ones when it mattered, the lineup all came through with runners in scoring position, and the bullpen beasted up when needed.

Then the Mets ran into the Dodgers and their lineup of death, which ended everything. The starters couldn’t go deep since the Dodgers don’t swing at ANYTHING out of the zone but promptly launch anything in the zone. The lineup left small armies on base almost every inning. And the bullpen arm couldn’t put up clean innings when the Mets needed it the most.

So now we go into an offseason that we were looking forward to before the regular season started because we thought this was a lost year. It wasn’t. It was the most magical run I can remember as a Mets fan. Unfortunately it ended like every other magical season I’ve lived through as a Mets fan and it hurts more than I could have imagined back in May when Jorge Lopez called them the worst team in baseball. No more Grimace. No more Seymour Weiner. No more baseball.

It hurts, but at least we felt more than we ever could’ve imagined this year and it SHOULD lead to more good next year. However I also know that should doesn’t mean shit when it comes to baseball (See: 2007 Mets, 2008 Mets, 2016 Mets, etc).

Now it’s time for Uncle Stevie to give David Stearns his wallet and let him cook. It was a super fun year but until the Mets are the last team alive, the job is not done. We’ll always have the Braves game with Lindor’s home run, Pete’s season-saving bomb against the Brewers, Lindor’s grand slam against the Phillies, and countless other awesome memories that we went nuts about with my fellow aliens in the gambling cave. But in the end it wasn’t enough and nothing will ever be enough until the Mets raise a World Series trophy at the end of the season, which I promise is coming.

Ya gotta believe.
