Alabama OC Nick Sheridan Says the Tide Staff Coaches Their Receivers To Practice Fadeaway Jumpers During QB Sneaks

This tells me all I need to know about Kalen DeBoer's Alabama. It didn't even take a year for this program to lose its way.

If a wide receiver practiced a fadeaway jump shot in the middle of a play on the road against the No. 11 team in the country on Nick Saban's watch, he'd have been lucky to escape with his life and scholarship. Now when Alabama players pull a stunt like that, their coach tells the media they're coaching it. And the craziest part is I think he's probably telling the truth.

For 17 years, Alabama was the gold standard in what a college football program should be, even down to seemingly insignificant things like players wearing their uniforms the exact same way. There's a reason the best coaches ever teach details like that — because how you do anything is how you'll do everything. And in just seven games, the Crimson Tide football program has gone from that to receivers taking a stepback jumper during a play and a coach publicly stating that he has no problem with it and that it's actually taught by the coaching staff. I'd venture to guess that's why that program has two losses before November for the first time since 2007.

It's just jarring to see this kind of thing from Alabama. Even in recent years when Georgia had taken the mantle of the best on-field team in the country, Bama still had that aura about it. And now it seems like that has diss
