Billionaire Owner John Fisher Already Wants To Sell 25% Of The Las Vegas Athletics
Casino.org - Unidentified sources familiar with the matter told The New York Post that owner John Fisher is looking to sell as much as 25% of the team for $500 million, implying the Major League Baseball (MLB) club is worth $2 billion. That’s significantly higher than the $1.2 billion Forbes said the team was worth before the start of the current season. At $1 billion, only the Miami Marlins were worth less than the A’s.
HUGE news depending on who you ask. But first I gotta say - if you're not following Pauly C, you're missing out on everything Vegas. Easily one of my favorite follows on any platform based purely on substantive knowledge and subject matter expertise. Pauly C can tell you - cold turkey - every market capitalization on every institution that will ever touch Nevada air space without taking a single breath much less conjuring an original though. The flow and majesty to his delivery only rivals the ancient rivers of Babylon and I really fucking mean that. Pauly C rocks.
Today he blew my tits off with the news that the A's are already looking for $500M cash infusion?! Like we can talk about the 25% stake or the $2B valuation with a 66% mark up from Forbes. But the real story is that John Fisher just doesn't have the money and isn't getting it from Vegas. No other reason to even consider selling a stake of the team before you even mix the concrete.
Obviously not a huge surprise for the cheapest owner in the history of professional sports. And arguably the worst and most universally hated.
But it's still wild that you can move your team to Sacramento for a couple years while still needing outside help. Whether it's for capital or expertise or you just want to diversify the portfolio and spread ownership-risk. Whatever the reason, the fact there is a reason should immediately revoke his status as majority owner. Put the club in receivership and let Rob Manfred crowd source roster decisions via twitter polls.
How much should the Nacho Helmet cost?
$5 14%
$6 12%
$14 1%
FUCK JOHN FISHER 73%
It's honestly such a travesty that you don't need reminding so let's keep it moving.
Obviously this is an aggressive valuation given the considerations. The A's are not worth $2 billion - not in Oakland or Vegas or Istanbul.
HOWEVER. Merely as a starting point, this is how you begin negotiations. You leak shit mainstream and try to start a bidding war over an inflated number. West Wing did a whole episode on the same topic before (SPOILER) Mrs. Landingham tragically dies. I can't remember exactly but it's really great television with Martin Sheen's best work.
Anyways. My point is that John Fisher sucks and this is just another reason why he should go live on Mars.
