Bronny James Scored His First Career NBA Basket, And The Crowd's Over-The-Top Reaction Made It Official: I Genuinely Feel Bad For Bronny James
So Bronny James scored his first ever NBA basket last night in mop-up time in Cleveland, making the James Gang the highest scored Father/Son duo in league history. Move over Kobe and Joe Bryant, as well as Steph and Dell Curry, because Bron Sr. and Bron Jr. now have 40,582 career points (40,580 / 2 split). Anyways, you'd think that I'd be happy for the Young King this morning, seeing as I do think he's a good kid and been put in a tough spot, but that's the exact opposite of how I feel after having watched the entire situation unfold in Cleveland last night. Through all the Cavs did for him....and how the fans reacted....and how manufactured it all has become....I am making it official: I genuinely feel sorry for Bronny James.
It all started with the Cavs locker room welcoming him to Cleveland yesterday.
Cool gesture, don't get me wrong. He grew up here, and the Cavs do this for everyone who grew up here. I have no problem with that. But then the (blowout) game actually started, and the crowd echoed with "We Want Bronny" chants like he was the manager on the end of the high school bench.
Finally, in a 21 point game, he enters with 5 minutes to go....and the crowd went nuts. Standing ovation.
At what point does Bronny think to himself, why am I getting all of this attention? I mean, the man scored 2 points in a blowout loss….and they gave him the net. The fucking net!
And then they catered his favorite food….
Which he then took to his postgame press conference….
Again, I understand WHY the son of the best player in the history of the sport, who grew up in the area, would get a postgame press conference. But at what point do you think this gets old to a kid that knows inside that he doesn't deserve it? I genuinely feel bad that everyone in the league knows he doesn't belong….including him…but he's getting treated like he's LeBron James or something.
