Mike Posner's "Cooler Than Me" Is One Of The Best Throwback Songs From 2010

Let’s take a trip back in time for a second, all the way back to 2010.

It’s summer, you’re wearing cargo shorts without a care in the world, and your biggest decision of the day is whether to drink a Four Loko or a Natty Light (or both, if you’re a real one).

Life is simple.

Gas is cheap.

The sun is shining, and all of a sudden, a synth-heavy, slick-as-hell beat hits the airwaves. Cue: “Cooler Than Me” by Mike fucking Posner.

If you were alive and breathing during the summer of 2010, this song was inescapable. It was pumping out of every car stereo, blasting at every beach party, and playing on repeat in your headphones while you convinced yourself you were definitely cooler than that girl who just ignored your text.

It’s got this cocky, sarcastic vibe wrapped up in a dance beat that makes it impossible not to sing along. The song is a masterpiece of the era, and it still slaps to this day.

“Cooler Than Me” was initially written while Mike Posner was a student at Duke University. He started working on the track as part of a mixtape project he was creating in his dorm room. It was first included in his 2009 mixtape A Matter of Time.

Following the success of the single, Posner went from performing at small venues and college gigs to touring internationally and playing major festivals, and headlining the second Barstool Sports “Stoolapalooza” Tour.

Belive it or not, the version of this song we all know and fell in love was actually a remix. My friend Joe's brother, who goes by the production name Gigamesh, did it. Posner heard it, loved it, showed the label, they loved it even more, and it got pushed as the official.

Here was the original, much more toned down, version -

And believe it or not, Posner is playing in Chicago at Salt Shed tomorrow night for Weish Fest, one of the best events of the year!
