Bill Burr Knocked His SNL Opening Monologue Out Of The Goddamn Park Talking About The Election, The Flu, And Shaquille O'Neal

"Ladies, you're 0-2 to this guy...let's get into the game tape!" When I tell you I laughed out loud, I mean I literally burst when I realized that was his transition to the election talk. Major credit to SNL (not something I thought I would be saying in 2024) for finally letting their hosts get loose. They did it with Shane Gillis too. He went out there and did a straight up set the same way he would in a comedy club and it crushed. I'm sure some of the writers weren't too happy with his choice of words, but fuck 'em. Funny is funny and that's what we need to remember. It's okay to laugh at this stuff.

We're living through an absolutely absurd time and despite what the media tells you, not everything is life and death. Having said that, some people will watch Bill Burr's monologue and cast him away because they just. don't. get it. Not the jokes, the fact that he's able to make them. Whether or not you think they're funny is beside the point. Comedy is about taking risks and pissing people off. Saying what "shouldn't be said" or what people are too afraid to say. That and making people laugh. Bill Burr did all of the above in his opening monologue and that's a great sign. Have a lovely Sunday.
