Georgia Football Player Was Caught on Video Jumping Up & Down in Celebration with Ole Miss Fans Following Their Loss on Saturday
On3 - A ton of emotions came to light in Oxford when Ole Miss defeated Georgia in Week 11, but a surprising moment was captured on camera featuring Bulldogs defender Jake Pope.
The safety was seemingly caught in a celebratory mood after Georgia’s loss, smiling and jumping up and down with what looks to be the family, or at least a group of supporters, of Rebels offensive lineman Reece McIntyre.
Pope and McIntyre are from the same hometown of Buford, Georgia, where they both played high school football for the Buford Wolves. It makes sense why Pope would be happy to see the McIntyre clan, but that doesn’t mean Bulldogs fans are going to be excited at seeing one of their defenders so joyous following a demoralizing loss.
#22 Jake Pope is listed as a safety for the Georgia Bulldogs. Without looking up his stats, I'm going to go out on a limb and say he's not getting a whole lot of run in Georgia's secondary. That's not the hair of a man who just played 4 quarters of SEC football. Not nearly sweaty enough. Way too straight. Lays too flat on his head.
Upon actually looking the guy up, I found this is Jake Pope's first year with Georgia. He transferred there after spending two seasons on the bench with Alabama (although he did apparently play a bit on special teams). So he probably thought if he couldn't cut it at safety for the Crimson Tide, then surely Georgia's defense could use a 5'11 white. Or maybe he thought without Nick Saban at the helm, The University of Alabama no longer lived up to the standards of a school Jake felt comfortable not playing at.
Ok sorry that was harsh. And unfair. According to 24/7 Sports, Jake Pope was actually a 4-star recruit out of high school (although just a 3-star transfer). Malachi Moore of Alabama even said some great things about him. He laid a hell of a hit in Alabama's spring game.
So maybe he does have a future with an SEC school. I'm sure he's just a guy who thought he'd rather grind it out on the bench for 3 or 4 or 7 years (however much eligibility they give kids nowadays), and maybe someday have a shot at playing meaningful football for a national championship contender. As opposed to banging his head against the wall and putting his body through hell to lead UAB to a massive win in the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl his senior year. Worst case scenario he rides the bench for Georgia the rest of his career where he'll lock down a smoking hot Alpha Phi girl who he'll marry and have 4 beautiful pure-blooded children with the minute they graduate college.
But when you do find yourself riding the bench, soaking in all the benefits that come with playing for a National Championship contender like the Georgia Bulldogs, the one thing you cannot do is embarrass them. You can't be caught celebrating with the other team. Driving 100 mph in a school zone, being arrested for speed racing down the interstate, multiple DUI's, assault & battery, domestic abuse, beating your children, that's all perfectly fine at Georgia. Nobody cares about that. Everybody makes mistakes. But when you do something to really embarrass the team... like jump up and down on the field with some old friends who you haven't seen in a long time following a tough loss to Ole Miss. That's something the good Christian football fans of the Georgia Bulldogs will simply not tolerate.
Gotta be better than that, Jake. I'm not sure if Kirby Smart can let this one slide. I'm afraid he might have to make an example out of you. Teach you a tough lesson. You'll be forced to pack your bags and join yet another national championship contending SEC team. Probably Ole Miss. That'll show ya.
