Give Rocky 5 Its Respect

On today’s episode of KFC Radio, KFC filled the gang in on one of the most important moments of his life and quite frankly the only reason I somewhat want to have kids: He showed them Rocky for the first time, starting off strong with Rocky 4.

My one problem I have with the whole experience is he said that they were going to skip over Rocky 5 and go straight to Rocky Balboa. This is a move I see done far too much in the Rocky game and I think it’s time for it to be addressed.

ROCKY 5 IS NOT BAD! To anyone who says different, I ask you: Where did you want them to go with Rocky 5? After he watched his best friend be killed in the ring and then get his own head bashed in for 15 straight rounds did we really think he was gonna waltz into the ring again begging for more? I know Drago said he was like a piece of iron but even iron rusts eventually!

It’s worth its weight in gold for the street fight scene alone in my opinion, but on top of that we get to see Rocky grapple with the next stage of his life, learning how to be a parent and what to do with himself after hanging up the gloves.

My one complaint with it is I would’ve liked a little bit more on how exactly Paulie was able to sign a power of attorney on Rocky’s behalf. Feels like there’s a hell of a lot to unpack there. We’ll also gloss over the fact that Rocky’s son somehow aged about 5 years from Rocky 4 to 5 despite the fact that there’s definitely no time jump involved.

I don’t know much in this world…but I know Rocky. Not to brag but I was ranked #1 in Rocky trivia in the state of Connecticut at the age of 12. I also to this day recite Rocky lines from the movie that correspond to the song I’m listening to on the soundtrack while I run. Much like Tommy Gunn, Rocky 5 wants its respect.

*While I have you here, please watch this deleted scene from Creed 2. Every time I watch it I'm stunned it didn't make the final cut. Probably the best deleted scene ever. Honestly could've been the perfect moment to send the Rocky character off into the sunset with all his demons resolved.*

Monumental few days for the fellas. KFC showed his kids Rocky for the first time and Feits is gonna be on your airplane screens for the foreseeable future when you fly Aer Lingus. Harold Perrineau also hopped on today so give it a listen.
