Donovan Mitchell Apologized To The Cleveland Fans For Trying To Get A Triple Double In One Of The Funniest Plays Since Ricky Davis Shot It Off His Own Backboard

So I’m not going to write a blog updating you on the Cavs perfect 13-0 record, because it would likely be similar to the blog I wrote a few days ago documenting their 12-0 record, not to be confused with the one I wrote shortly before that highlighting their 9-0 record. No, the angle I’m going to take today is to detail the game inside the game, including this photo that I personally think should be framed and sent to Springfield, Massachusetts immediately to be showcased in the Basketball Hall of Fame:

If you've clicked on this blog, you already have an inkling of how this play ends. But I wish I could walk around the streets of New York, doing Man on the Street, willing to pay anyone a hundred dollars to predict what happens next. My guess is that I'd receive 50% made layups because that is exactly what you should expect here from an All-NBA franchise player. But I'd also guess we'd receive about 50% missed layups because they people would be wondering why on Earth I'd ask such a silly question, knowing something weird must come next. But what I'm willing to bet on is that NO ONE would predict what actually happens. Folks, this ball is passed over his head to the right to a non-suspecting, non-open, as confused as the rest of us Evan Mobley.

Context: Donovan Mitchell has never had a triple-double, and he was 1 assist away. Really channeling his former Cavs great Ricky Davis vibes here. But this has to go down as one of the worst plays in the history of the sport, right? And it damn near cost the undefeated Cavs a victory against a 2-9 Philly team that was without Paul George and Joel Embiid!

Now, the good news is that Donovan knew it immediately that not only did he fuck up, he was also extremely selfish. And he apologized to the fans at the first opportunity he could:

Leadership. Ownership. And a fucking HOOPER. Listen Donovan, it goes without saying but I forgive you for the selfish act. And in all honesty, I don't care if you do it again. Just don't do it when we have the chance to lose the game. (And if you do end up doing it in that situation, just hit another dagger 3 right afterwards like you did to the 76ers).
