A Very Sad Cam Newton Says The Panthers "Don't Fuck With Him" Anymore, Claims There's Not a Single Picture of Him in Their Entire Facility
Cam Newton dressed as Rastafarian Morocco Mole might have a point. A point punctuated by a very somber & depressing score of music that definitely seems like overkill. But a point nonetheless. The man deserves a picture.
Considering what he did for that organization, Panthers' owner David Tepper should really be constructing a life size Cam Newton statue outside Bank of America Stadium as we speak. A statue that if you squint your eyes hard enough might even slightly resemble him. Personally, I'd like to see them build a Colossus of Cam that anybody who visits the stadium is forced to drive their car between the legs of. Much like The Colossus of Rhodes, which was destroyed by an earthquake circa 226 BC.
But that's just because I love a good Colossus. Cam Newton doesn't necessarily deserve that level of praise. But you'd think they would have something Cam Newton related within the stadium walls. Maybe David Tepper and the Carolina Panthers really are just waiting for him to officially retire (which according to Cam will never technically happen). But nothing about David Tepper makes me inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt. I think there's a fairly good chance Tepper holds some sort of petty resentment towards Cam Newton that's prevented him from even hanging a simple, "Cam Newton Was Here" plaque somewhere in the facility.
Especially considering they didn't invite Cam to Germany. They invited Steve Smith, Thomas Davis, Julius Peppers and Luke Kuechly. Three of which were on the 2015 NFC Champion Panthers team. If they respected Cam at all, they at least would have asked him. Instead of just using, "Well we didn't know if he was technically retired", as a cop out to not even give him the option. Why not just ask? Were they afraid he was going to wear a stupid fucking outfit or something?
I suppose there's always a non-zero chance Cam Newton shows up in Germany wearing a bedazzled S.S. uniform, and the Panthers would be forced to issue a, "We're sorry we're not Nazi's we didn't know Cam was going to do that he just really loves Hugo Boss" type of statement. But more likely than not he would have showed up dressed modestly as non-binary Darkwing Duck and it would have all went off without a hitch.
And I guess to be fair, communicating Cam is definitely a nightmare. Whoever was in charge of organizing the Germany alumni trip probably thought ignoring him entirely, and possibly hurting his feelings a bit, was a much easier road to go down than trying to decipher any of Cam Newton's weird hieroglyphic text messages.
But c'mon Carolina. C'mon David Tepper. Try to not do the wrong thing for once in your life. Cam Newton's career is obviously over. You gotta put SOMETHING to acknowledge his existence in your facility. Look how sad he is! A small statue, a plaque, a collection of festive hats, anything. He led you to a Super Bowl. He won an MVP. You probably sold more tickets during the Cam Newton era than you have in any other. You probably paid his salary from jersey sales alone. At least let the guy put on a Funky Friday for the masses. Whatever the hell that may be. I can't stand to see a man dressed so hilariously look so glum. This season alone was worth it.
