After A Hat Trick Last Night Ovi Is Now Only 29 Goals Away From Passing Gretzky!

Fuck the election, fuck football, fuck everything else that people are paying attention to. Ovi chasing down Gretzky right now should be front page news from sea to shining sea. I know it's "just hockey" in a lot of people's minds, but what we are witnessing is insane. 39 year old Alexander Ovechkin is not only 29 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky's all time goals record, but he's not doing it on life support, but instead by leading the league in goals in his 20th NHL season. He's not puttering to the finish line, he's Usain Bolt. This is Tom Brady on the Bucs level of ridiculousness. He has the Caps within 1 point of leading the Metro- the same Caps team a lot of "experts" predicted to miss the playoffs entirely.

And this isn't just a flash-in-the-pan hot start. Brian MacLellan and Dick Patrick did such a ridiculously good job revamping the roster over the offseason it should be studied. Bringing in Pierre-Luc Dubois who has been awesome, Brandon Duhaime, Andrew Mangiapane, Taylor Raddysh, Matt Roy, and the unbelievable Jakob Chychrun and Logan Thompson in ONE OFFSEASON is so next level GM'ing. PLD is nothing like how people said he was, and Chychrun is the best defenseman in the league right now. Meanwhile Logan Thompson is 8-0-1. 

And did I mention…can't remember if I mentioned it…Ovi is leading the league in goals!!!! 

And only 3 of the 13 are on the PP. In fact, you could argue with the Caps being 27th in the league in PP%, Ovi will only heat up from here!

So that's where we're at- 29 away. I came into the season thinking he would break the record next October, but at this pace he could do it right around the All Star Break. And then become the first player to ever hit 900 career goals. Ovi, my GOAT.
