I've Become a Purveyor of Porn...

I've been told by some that, as a blogger, I've become a purveyor of porn.

Not all the data is in. Still, according to an independent marketing professional (my youngest son), my blogs seem to perform much better when they're accompanied by provocative thumbnails—ones with bouncing boobs and asses.

This is not good news for somebody who would prefer to be taken seriously as a writer/blogger without the porn. Blogs containing porn are like breakfast cereals with tons of sugar. In both cases, you're exploiting an individual's weakness to sell your product.

Take this blog post, for instance. Would you have clicked on it if the thumbnail was just a standard black-and-white image? My guy says there's a high probability you wouldn't. He thinks you'd keep scrolling until you find a thumbnail that satisfies your primal instincts. Like this one…

As a blogger, "You're only as good as your pageviews say you are." I get that. Anybody in the blogging business needs pageviews to keep the lights on, and some will reduce their thumbnail to mere clickbait to get them. And when they do, they're usually very successful.

So, "Let there be porn!"
