A New Enemy: Brad Underwood Isn't Going To Waste His Time With Ed Cooley, Knows Illinois Fans Are Taking Care Of The 'Bullshit School' Line For Him
Yesterday we saw the start of a rivalry. Sure, it's going to be a one-sided rivalry, but you don't piss off a lunatic fanbase and get away with it. Not when you're Ed Cooley and call Illinois a bullshit school. Again, this was a random shot over Jayden Epps starting his career there. You can argue about if Illinois grabbed him late over Providence, whatever. Who cares, just a weird shot out of nowhere by a coach who ran out of enemies in the Big East. Probably why he apologized on Twitter:
That tweet is basically the SID/PR department thinking it will work. Nope, Illinois fans aren't going to let you call them a bullshit school and Providence fans are always looking for a reason to get riled up. You just gave both fanbases a reason to pile on all year. Now, let's see what Brad Underwood had to say:
Extended version:
Perfect. Insult the reporters, tell Ed Cooley you're too busy with Little Rock and some other school in Arkansas and can't even be bothered by him. Nope, too busy making an NCAA Tournament. Then he says the thing that sticks out. He basically tells Illinois fans to have at it. Go to war with Georgetown. Those are direct orders from Underwood, who can't be bothered to read some stuffy reporters words, let alone whatever Ed Cooley says.
All I know is this needs to be a nonconference game next year. We know Georgetown isn't making the NCAA Tournament so we can't ask the committee to give us that matchup there. Give us a game in Illinois, no one shows up to Georgetown games. Give us this random ass rivalry and let the fans go at it. Actually, play the game in Providence, neutral site.
