North Carolina Has Reportedly Interviewed Bill Belichick for Its Head Coaching Job — Yes, That One
Uhhhh ... wow, ok.
North Carolina is probably the most attractive Power Four head coaching job available right now, but I did not have Bill Belichick on my hot board for the Tar Heels. It seems a bit odd that a 72-year-old Belichick would be looking to get into college coaching in the NIL and transfer portal era — when so many other coaches are looking for opportunities to get out — after having exclusively worked in the NFL for the last 50 years, but I guess the UNC job is better than I thought.
Is this just a signal from Belichick to NFL teams that he's ready to get back in the game? It doesn't seem like he would need to interview with a college team if he wanted that word out there. Maybe he's had his fill of Super Bowls and is genuinely interested in testing the waters in the ACC.
Being retired and hanging out with your 24-year-old girlfriend is a prison sentence compared to the thrill of spending every waking moment of your life recruiting. Bill has been off visiting vineyards and playing golf for the last year fantasizing about grinding Stanford tape at 3 a.m. because he's a real Football Guy. It's a way of life.
Every time Bill has been made to play dress-up or go to a lighthouse at sunset, he has been thinking about how he could lead a team to a first round bye in the 2025 College Football Playoff. This guy is going to lose his mind of he doesn't get back on a practice field immediately.
I think I speak for every college football fan when I say this absolutely has to happen. I have no idea how it would turn out, but we all deserve to watch it.
