Carson Beck Reportedly Has a UCL Injury and Will Miss the Sugar Bowl

Well that's big.

Carson Beck suffered a reported UCL injury on the final play of the first half against Texas in the SEC Championship Game and will miss at least Georgia's first game of the College Football Playoff — one would assume he would be done for the season, though that hasn't been confirmed. Gunner Stockton will lead the Bulldogs in their quest for a third national championship in four years after coming in and taking down Texas to win the SEC title.

Stockton completed 12 of 16 passes for 71 yards with an interception in the second half, but UGA's first drive with him under center was the best it looked all game and led to the Dawgs' only touchdown of regulation. He showed enough on Saturday for me to think he is going to be good enough for Georgia to win any game it plays with multiple weeks of preparation as the starter.

And it's not like Beck had been lighting it up this season. He threw 12 picks — seven of which came against Alabama, Ole Miss and Florida — and played his way from the No. 1 overall pick discussion at the beginning of the year to maybe third or fourth round now. No team ever wants its starting quarterback to get hurt heading into the CFP, but there is a real chance this ends up benefitting UGA if Stockton is able to step in and play like he did on that first drive of the second half against Texas.
