The story of Hannah Kobayashi has been an insane one to follow and it just got a hell of a lot crazier. A missing woman, a father's suicide, and a green card marriage scandal. Let's all get caught up to speed before we get into the new details.

The timeline of how we got here (with help from USA Today) starts back on November 8th with 30 year old Hannah missing her connecting flight at LAX. She was traveling from Maui and headed to New York City. Security footage catches her leaving the airport in a hoodie. After a few days of being spotted at various local stores, she returns to the airport to retrieve her luggage. She then buys a bus ticket to get her to a location near the Mexican border using her passport. That was the last record of her being anywhere. The next day her family filed a missing persons report and a massive search for her began. Prior to her vanishing the family said Hannah had been sending her a bunch of cryptic texts regarding a "spiritual awakening." Nearly two weeks later her dad was in LA helping with the search when he jumped off a parking garage and committed suicide. As LAPD continued their investigation they changed their changed the case to a voluntary missing person situation, believing she willingly missed her flight and went to Mexico under her own accord.

Then yesterday happened. Hannah was officially found safe. Her family sent out this statement.

(NY Post) Hannah Kobayashi has been found safe more than a month after relatives reported she had vanished in Los Angeles, her family announced Wednesday. The announcement came a week after Kobayashi was spotted on camera crossing the border into Mexico, apparently of her own free will.
Before her disappearance, Kobayashi had sent a flurry of bizarre text messages to friends and family talking about a “spiritual awakening” and being “tricked.” She had also been seen accompanied by an unknown man hours before her last sighting.

And after she was determined to have voluntarily traveled to Mexico, the FBI investigated whether she had been wrapped up in a green card marriage scheme with an Argentine national.

So what in the world is going on here? Why did Hannah miss her flight, not tell anyone, and head to Mexico? No heads up to her family whatsoever? No contact once reports come out that her own dad killed himself over this?

There are big rumors going around that this has to do with a marriage fraud scandal gone wrong.

(LA Magazine) During her L.A. visit, she sent cryptic text messages to family members about people close to her stealing her money, which is now being analyzed in context with a possible marriage scheme her family fears she could be involved in, which prompted them to "immediately" turn over documents to the FBI and LAPD.
Her family now fears, sources close to the case say, that Kobayashi may have been scammed out of the proceeds of the purported immigration scheme possibly concocted by her former partner, who left Maui with Kobayashi.
On the plane with the former couple was Alan Cacace, an Argentinian national who apparently posted and deleted photos that purport to show his marriage to Kobayashi. The posts have since been deleted, and the family said they can not confirm the veracity of the photos. Kobayashi's mom also uncovered immigration documents at her daughter's home in Maui that were turned over to investigators as the family desperately searched for Hannah, who they believed was an imminent danger.

As this part of the story goes, Hannah's alleged green card husband Alan Cacace along with ex-boyfriend Amun Muniz-Miranda and his green card wife, planned to travel to NYC continue to make their fake marriages appear more legitimate. Her green card husband apparently promised to pay her $15,000 (Daily Mail) to scam a marriage and get him citizenship. Something went wrong and she never got on that flight to New York. Think 'The Proposal' but not the storybook ending where Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock fall in love. People seem to think that whole plan went sideways when she never got paid. I can't seem to understand how she remained hiding after the news about her dad's death came out. We don't know the full details by any means, but what the fuck?

What a rollercoaster of a tragic story. No way to tell yet if Hannah was in actual trouble, just needed space, in way too over her head, or something else, but her dad is dead because of it. I feel like we're not close to finding out all the details here and when we do Netflix will be right there to swoop in for the rights to the story. Let's get Kirk on the case for another season and uncover every detail of this shitshow.
