Travis Hunter Winning the Biletnikoff Award Over Nick Nash Is Ridiculous and the Glazing Has To Stop

Alright, enough. I can't take it anymore.

Travis Hunter won the Biletnikoff Award as the nation's best wide receiver on Thursday night. He finished the season with 92 receptions for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns, which is a great season on the offensive side of the ball. It was also provably not the best season a receiver had this year.

San Jose State's Nick Nash led the country in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. By literally any measure, he was the best receiver in the country all season. I couldn't have even imagined before tonight that someone could win the triple crown and not win the Biletnikoff. But Nash had the misfortune of going up against the cult of Hunter.

I don't know why so many people are insistent that we talk about Hunter like he's the best player to ever put on cleats because he had an outstanding season on both sides of the ball. He is going to deservedly win the Heisman Trophy, but that's still not enough for those in the cult if the praise you heap is not effusive enough.

Nash was simply an objectively better wide receiver than Hunter. Nash's opponents were slightly easier, but I am confident he would have been one of the best wideouts in the country regardless of where he played. And again, Hunter is a much better overall player because of what he's able to do on defense, but that has nothing to do with the Biletnikoff Award. Somehow, though, it seems like that became part of the criteria for one year.

I want to love Travis Hunter. He's so good. But people like the ones who voted for him to win the Biletnikoff make it very difficult.
