UNDAUNTED: Cignetti Wins College Football's Coach Of The Year. National Title Is Next.
Coach Cignetti is cleaning up the regular season awards this year - Big 10 Coach of the Year, and now the National Coach of the Year. But the job isn't finished. At the moment, all I truly care about is the Hoosiers winning a game in South Bend next Friday, so much so that I refused to even look at the 2025 schedule release because I'm so dialed in on the College Football Playoff. BUT, it's important to smell the roses, and take a second to appreciate Indiana having a historical season thanks to a man I'll probably name my first born child after (guy or girl), a true leader of men, Curt Cignetti.
I'm not sure how to handle the announcement of this news. Do fanbases get excited? Looking at the list of Coach of the Year winners over the last few decades, and no one has brought a program out of absolute rock bottom like Cignetti. Even UCF had some succesful seasons before Scott Frost won in 2017. The Hoosiers peak of success was a few 8 win seasons, and were with Iowa State and Vanderbilt as the only power conference teams to never have a 10 win season, until this year. Seeing Indiana win, and even hearing the Hoosiers be talked about by the national media has been incredible, so I'm excited Cig and the Indiana football program get the recognition they deserve.
The Hoosiers should be succesful for awhile under Cig with more $ pouring into NIL, and better recruits looking at the program. I can't wait for Cig to take us back to the CFP and prove the haters wrong. But I won't be taking this season for granted, nothing is promised. Look at the Pacers who tried to run it back with a young core and are all of the sudden a complete and total embarrassment. Since basketball is officially dead in Indiana, the state is looking at Cig to bring back the football glory days the state once new under Peyton Manning.
Glad Cig's hard work was recognized on the national stage, but it's on to Notre Dame.
