It Just Means More: The SEC Is Having The Best Start To A College Basketball Season A Conference Has Ever Seen
SEC! SEC! Look, it's the best conference in America and it ain't even close. 14-2 in the SEC/ACC Challenge, just beating the hell out of ranked teams across the country, it doesn't matter. The SEC is off to the best start a conference has ever seen. The game that sealed this start was Texas A&M going to Indianapolis and beating Purdue:
A&M is awesome and they might be the 8th best team in the SEC. That's how deep the conference is. At the same time Auburn is currently up 68-35 on Ohio State. Sure, Ohio State is an embarrassing athletic department right now, but it's past the point of an ass kicking. You don't like AP poll stats? Fine. The SEC currently has 5 teams in KenPom's top-10. They have 11 in the top-40. The deepest conference in America, the best conference in America.
It's been a long time coming. There was a time the SEC sucked. Greg Sankey made an effort for schools to put resources into college basketball. That's how you end up with a guy like Buzz Williams leaving Virginia Tech to go to Texas A&M. The dude, while constantly sweaty, is still an elite coach. Obviously a long way to go and people will scream in March, but this is the best start we've ever seen. It's the best conference in America.
