If The Eagles Win A Super Bowl, It's Because Brandon Graham and Big Dom Went To Jalen Hurts' House Over The Bye Week To Tell Him To Connect More With His Teammates
Nobody knew what we were going to get out of this Eagles team after a 2-2 start. The bye week hit and it honestly felt like a breath of fresh air to not have to watch the Eagles play for a week. There was talk all offseason about a fractured relationship between Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts. The offense never really got a chance to get on the same page early in the year. The defense was up and down. The decision making was all over the place. It just didn't seem like there was anything really holding this Eagles team together.
Then the bye week comes. And as we know just from the 10 straight wins, clearly everything turned around. We've heard about how the offensive line went up to Sirianni and told him they wanted to run the ball more. We've known that it just took Vic Fangio a few weeks to figure out how he really wanted the defense to operate. But what we know now, thanks to this Jay Glazer report, is that the team finally got the connection they were searching for thanks to Brandon Graham and Big Dom showing up to Jalen's home.
I know some people might be dealing with Big Dom fatigue by now, but what a move be these guys who have both been around long enough to know what it takes to get the job done in Philly. Brandon Graham has seen it all during his time here. Big Dom has seen it all during his time here. They know that in order to get to where they want to go, it's not enough for everybody to just be focused on doing their own job. Just because you have a bunch of individual guys all wearing the same uniform doesn't make you a team. Connection makes you a team.
We've heard before that Jalen Hurts more or less just sticks to himself. He's not overly eager to go out of his way to make sure he's getting everybody together. Not because he's an asshole or anything, but just because his personality seems to be more reserved. It's part of the reason why you hardly ever see a drop of emotion on his face whether things are going great or disastrous on the field.
People forget that sports are all about the boys. Talent is important, but how much do the fellas really love each other? Are they pumped to go to the locker room every day to be with the squad? When you think about it, you spend so much more time in the locker room over the course of the season than you do on the field for game days. If the boys aren't loving it, then it can turn into a long season.
But when the fellas are clicking? When you have that connection as tight as possible? Then everybody is doing their part working towards the same goal. Someone starts to slip and not getting their job done as effectively as possible? It doesn't cause the entire team to slip and fall with them. Instead, that connection stays strong and gives that guy enough time to get himself back up. Clearly that was a massive issue with the 2023 Eagles team. The moment the wheels started to fall off, the season went up in flames. But this team is different. This team could afford to change out a tire if they needed to. And it's all because of that connection. So credit to BG and Big Dom for making sure that got taken care of during the bye week. And credit to Jalen Hurts for making it happen. The week leading up to that Steelers game would have been enough drama for most teams to immediately implode. But not this Eagles team.
