Reports Are That Mike Vrabel Is The Bears #1 Choice For Their Next Head Coach
I am firmly in the Vrabel camp here so this speculation got me like 5% excited. 5% because just because he's the Bears top choice it doesn't mean the Bears are Vrabel's top choice. I am so curious about how the Bears are perceived by professionals around the league. The Bears can sell the city, the tradition, the young QB, but...I don't know how any big time coach or GM could look at the Bears situation since Lovie Smith and not have hesitation about the job. Assuming the money is all equal, is the Bears job more attractive than the Giants? The Cowboys? The Jets? I am genuinely asking because I don't know. I am trying to put myself in Vrabel's shoes. They are the Chicago Bears and there are only 32 NFL head coaching jobs, but man it looks like a toxic mess mixed with a power struggle between the GM and President with absentee heads of state in the McCaskeys.
The Bears need someone who is strong enough to sort through all of that mess. I don't see someone out there who has the will power to do that besides Vrabel. My jaded, broken heart, says that the Bears won't get be able to get Vrabel in here. Money, personel, personalities of upper management might botch everything. IF this rumor is true though it would represent a departure from the Bears usual type of guy. Speculation is that the Bears (McCaskey and Warren) won't want a guy with a big, brash, personality to come in and upset the apple cart even though that is exactly what they need. Let's hope that the McCaskeys have hit rock bottom. Let's hope that they're ready to have an intervention with themselves and do the opposite of what they've always done and bring in a real football guy to run this organization. Let Warren go build a stadium and let the football people do their thing. Plenty of glory to go around if you win in Chicago
