Only The Jets: Woody Johnson Reportedly Refused To Trade For Jerry Jeudy Because He Thought His Madden Rating Was Too Low

Every so often we need a story so ridiculous that everyone assumes it's fake. Gotta make sure it's not a Centel or Athletic+ or any of those fake stories out there. That is until you see Woody Johnson and the Jets involved. The fact he wouldn't trade for Jerry Jeudy because he did his own research could only be Woody Johnson. Even better? It wasn't the only time the Jets did this

And the proposed Jeudy trade wasn’t the only time Johnson cited “Madden” ratings when evaluating players.

First off, we need a full list of players that the Jets used Madden to evaluate. It would make a lot more sense for some of these guys. Second, need to know the analytics here. What's the number that Woody Johnson is looking for when it comes to Madden ratings. Also 100% chance he looked at the wrong year when bringing in all of Rodgers former teammates at Green Bay, right? I wouldn't put it past Rodgers to slip a Madden 17 under the door and Woody Johnson having no idea and thinking he got a steal because Randall Cobb is an 89. Then again when you have a guy named Brick helping you out

Johnson’s reference to Jeudy’s “Madden” rating was, to some in the Jets’ organization, a sign of Brick and Jack’s influence. Another example came when Johnson pushed back on signing free-agent guard John Simpson due to a lackluster “awareness” rating in Madden. The Jets signed Simpson anyway, and he has had a solid season: Pro Football Focus currently has him graded as the eighth-best guard in the NFL.

It's gotta be hell working for the Jets. You know you're stuck in hell with a team that will never win no matter what. You know you can come up with the greatest scouting evaluation the NFL has ever seen and the only question your boss has for you is 'why is he a 77 on Madden' and the player never becomes a Jet. Not even that, his son, again named BRICK, is running around citing Madden stats. Imagine someone, anyone named Brick arguing with you. Fuck that. You know you're stuck in the worst place imaginable when a dude named Brick has any sort of power.

But as a non-Jets fan, the NFL needs this team. We need a franchise that is always destined to be in hell. Their peak was long before we were alive and then in the 40 years we've been on this Earth we were gifted a foot fetish, a butt fumble, the draft day booing collection, you name it, the Jets have done it. This is just another story to them, business as usual.

Imagine being Jeudy's agent here too. You start warning your client that a trade is coming, the team is trying to send you to the Jets, only to come back with saying the trade broke down because Woody Johnson thought your Madden rating showed you sucked. Do you call Madden at that point? Do you make a big fuss and talk about how the ratings cost you a move? Or do you celebrate (before ending up in Cleveland)?

Only the Jets, man. I almost want to feel bad for their fans but you know what you signed up for.
