The Sugar Bowl Has Been Postponed To Thursday Following Bourbon Street Terrorist Attack That Killed At Least 10 People
Situations like this are always awkward to write about at Barstool. Considering almost everything we write is humorous an attempt at humor, or a hot take, or bashing LeBron James, or calling a coach a fucking moron for not going for it on 4th down. But there's obviously nothing funny about a terrorist attack. It's hard to even know where to begin with stories like this. To even get clicks off something like this seems gross. But there are so many people, the victims & victim's families, and anybody who witnessed the attack who you feel for and want to send your thoughts and prayers to. Which always ends up sounding hollow, no matter how much you truly mean it. Then there's the first responders who deserve praise for anything they may have done to save even a single life, or somehow managed to help in the aftermath of the attack. There's just so many different angles to look at this from, and no matter how many thoughts and prayers you send, nothing seems to fully do the justice to the weight of the situation.
I'm not going muster up a take about whether or not college football & the city of New Orleans as a whole made the correct decision to cancel the Sugar Bowl in the wake of a terrorist attack. I can't imagine having that decision on my shoulders. I'm not going to get into speculating as to who exactly was responsible, or who the attack can be traced back to. We have the name of the driver, but I'm not going to give him any credit by typing it out. I'm sure everybody has their own theories on the attack. Everybody has seen that the truck was carrying an ISIS flag. It's just a horrifically tragic and fucked up situation for everybody involved. For the entire country.
The most recent update I see from CNN says at least 10 people were killed on Bourbon Street last night. I've seen reports saying 15 as well. One thing we know for sure is that the Sugar Bowl between Georgia and Notre Dame will not be played tonight, and has been postponed to this Thursday at 4PM EST.
It almost seems silly to even talk about the football game, considering how trivial it is compared to what New Orleans is going through tonight. But I suppose Barstool is a sports site, and a college football game as major as the Sugar Bowl being cancelled just goes to show the gravity of what happened this morning.
Your heart goes out to all the victims and all the friends & families of the victims. I can't pretend to know or understand what they must be going through right now. All we can hope for is that somehow, someway, whatever justice could possibly be served is served, and that those in the hospital as a result of the attack are able to make a full recovery. I think it goes without saying how fucking pathetic of a human being it takes to do something like this. I don't see any point in further posting the videos that you've probably seen circulating the internet. It's all just a stark reminder how fleeting life is, and how important it is to take no moments for granted, because you never know when you wake up in the morning if you might not make it back to your bed at night.
