'Daredevil: Born Again' Looks Badass And Violent As Hell
Over six years after the final episodes of 'Daredevil' aired on Netflix - the Charlie Cox led superhero series is BACK on March 4th, with Vincent D'Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, and Jon Bernthal all reprising their roles from the original show.
Now I've gotta come clean right up front here, just as I did in my reaction video: I haven't actually watched the OG 'Daredevil' yet. I know, I know - how does the comic book nerd at Barstool who covers these shows for a living not watch arguably the best one ever?! It basically just comes down to me not starting 'Daredevil' when it began in 2014, then it constantly getting away from me for one reason or another. I'd have the urge to start it, or watch the first few episodes, and then just stray away due to random other factors. It doesn't help that it concluded before our weekly nerd show recaps on My Mom's Basement began, and then whenever I'd try to get back into it, another superhero show would start and I'd get pulled away to cover that one.
I'm finally ready to dive in now that I know I have a March 4th deadline to catch up by, though - and I'm especially stoked after seeing that trailer yesterday. The rebooted 'Daredevil: Born Again' (named after the Frank Miller/David Mazzucchelli run in the comics) looks gritty, violent as hell, and action packed; we got both elbows and knees snapping backwards in the first teaser for Christ's sake!
Hopefully we get something that lives up to the infamous hallway fight scene in this season - that's a clip from the original series that I think everyone has seen by now….
Both Wilson Fisk (aka Kingpin) as the Mayor of New York City and Frank Castle (aka The Punisher) being locked up in prison intrigues the hell out of me, as do the new villains/vigilantes: White Tiger and Muse….
Muse in particular looks fucking awesome. Unfortunately the actor who portrayed White Tiger, Kamar de los Reyes, passed away after filming - so we'll have to enjoy his performance posthumously. Such a shame.
I'll update everyone along my 'Daredevil' journey on My Mom's Basement - but just know, I promise to get on it now. It's been long enough.
P.S. Daredevil was actually one of my favorite superheroes as a kid, because I LOVED the Ben Affleck movie. I think I wore that VHS out, constantly fast forwarding past the credits to watch the 'Bring Me To Life' Daredevil music video….
Obviously, looking back, it's not the best superhero movie ever made - but honestly check out the Director's Cut if you're interested. They cut a lot of the romance stuff with Elektra out in exchange for more violence and action. It's a definite improvement.
