Novak Djokovic Dodges Post Match On Court Interview At Australian Open, Blames TV Reporter Who Mocked Him And His Serbian Fans Live On Air
It was a pretty boring night of tennis at the Aussie Open on Saturday, so Novak Djokovic decided to give us something fun to talk about.
Following the conclusion of his straight sets W over Jiri Lehecka, everyone assumed Novak was going to speak to the on court reporter and address the crowd as one normally does. Instead he grabbed the mic from Jim Courier, thanked the fans for coming out, and walked off the court without answering any questions. Weird.
Turns out Novak has beef with someone named Tony Jones, a TV personality who works for Channel 9 in Australia. Jones mocked Novak and his Serbian fans while on air the other day. Clearly Novak wasn’t having any of this.
"Novak he's overrated, Novak's a has been, Novak kick him out!" Now none of that is enough to stop you in your tracks and ask for him to be canceled and thrown in jail, but coming from a TV reporter whose network covers the AO extensively, that’s pretty disrespectful. I guess the closest we have to that here is Charles Barkley when he calls out someone like Joel Embiid, but that’s just Chuck being Chuck. This felt weird.
Novak was later seen talking to the CEO of Tennis Australia Craig Tiley.
He later addressed everyone on Twitter
That made Elon rock hard
Novak is at the stage in his career where he just doesn’t give a shit. He can choose to skip any tournament he wants and dodge any press he wants to. He answers to no one. He’s beaten the game of tennis and has just about every record you can think of. Nothing about him is overrated and he isn’f a “has been” presently. Dude is in the quarters of the AO at 37 years old and will probably give Carlos Alcaraz a real test tomorrow night. He’s won countless titles in Australia. Take out the unprofessionalism from the TV guy, he’s just flat out wrong.
It’s possible Tony Jones is a closet die hard Djokovic fan and he’s just trying to piss off Novak knowing he plays his best that way. As a Carlos Alcaraz guy I don’t appreciate this happening right before their match. Angry Novak is a monster you want to avoid on a tennis court.
