Lamar Jackson. Josh Allen. Double Legacy Game. Let's. Go.
Game of the year. Bar none.
The dominant talking head discussion over the past 6 weeks has been all about these two QB's. Nonstop. Josh Allen MVP this. Lamar Jackson can't play in the cold that. These two have fed so many families over at ESPN and FS1 and it's only fair that these two go head to head and settle things once and for all. Or at least until next year.
There's definitely truth to the idea that whoever comes out ahead in this one still has a ton of work out in front of him. The elephant in the room is the big bad wolf is waiting in Kansas City, where few have come out alive. The pressure here is that whoever loses gets cast even deeper into the pit of "this guy just can't win the big one" and "playoff choker" label.
I'd probably say Lamar is under more pressure in that regard. Regardless of how fair it is, if he loses today he will continue to have a losing record in the postseason, and his 3 wins will have come against Ryan Tannehill, rookie CJ Stroud, and a washed Russell Wilson. Yawn. Earning 2 playoff byes is nice, but he hasn't earned a big notch in his belt by outdueling a big name QB, and failing to do so for a 2nd time against Josh Allen will only amplify that narrative.
Everyone has been chasing Mahomes. We all know it. Each of these teams and QB's have had an extraordinary season and the fact that only one will get their shot to take down the champ might feel a little unfair… but that's the bed these two made. The regular season matters. So much. Can't tell me one bit it doesn't. Mahomes took care of business and earned his position in this postseason and these two failed to match it. The Ravens goofed around with the Raiders and Browns, and now they have to go on the road in a frigid Buffalo environment and win on the road. Earning that advantage has been a big reason why Mahomes (and Brady before him) has accomplished what they have… and it's also what makes that home AFCCG for Baltimore so frustrating last year. That was supposed to be the year. This year should have been about evening the score with Mahomes. It isn't.
But I digress. First things first. Both these teams are pretty different from Week 4 when the Ravens kicked the Bills teeth in. Both teams were dangerous then, but have improved dramatically since. The Ravens dominated last week against a pisspoor Steelers team by getting out in front and dictating the terms of the game. That was the formula in Week 4 too. They ran it right into the face of the Bills and dared them to stop them. They couldn't. They were physical and they put a beating on Josh Allen, and the game simply got away from Buffalo.
I would be shocked if that happens again today. The Ravens can certainly jump in front and dictate the terms, but the Bills won't wilt like they did that night. The weather lends itself to the gameplan being the same. Run, run, and then run some more. I think Lamar will keep on a ton of runs like he did last week and like he did Week 1 against KC. They preserved his legs most the season for games like this. He will be fully unleashed and the Lamar/Henry dilemma will be even further accentuated. If the two of them combine for less than 200+ on the ground, we've failed.
Josh Allen is a fucking weapon, especially moving left. Easier said than done, but they gotta put his ass in the ground when they lay hands on him. Madibuike is the guy for the job. 2 sacks last week and the speed to pressure him to the sidelines.
I'm so hecking nervous about this game for both sides. Not even close to as much to gain as there is to lose. Winner gets a shot at the champ.
I am closing in on the parking lot here up in Buffalo. I am fucking ready to rock. Holler at me @barstoolbanks if you're up here.
Can't wait to watch a legacy game with my two eyes.
Go do the damn thing Lamar. Let's go to Kansas City and right some wrongs.
Bring this energy today.
