Credit To Jared Verse, Who Backed Up Every Bit Of Shit Talk He Had For The City of Philadelphia
There have been plenty of athletes who have vocalized their contempt for Philly fans over the years. Typically that ends up being a recipe for disaster, as the Philly faithful then target all their hatred and vitriol towards that one individual player. It's a lot for one man to handle. We've seen it literally break athletes in the past. Orlando Arcia left Philadelphia as a shell of himself. A kid like Cutter Gauthier looked like he was terrified to even step on the ice after having to deal with the ire of Flyers fans.
So when Jared Verse made it known how much he hates Eagles fans before the Rams' divisional round game in Philly this weekend? Well we figured we were in to seeing another man's soul getting snatched from him in South Philadelphia.
Which would have been incredible to see. And honestly, it was looking like there was at least a chance of that happening before the game as Jared Verse continued to poke the bear.
Almost like he was too focused on sticking it to the fans in that moment, instead of focusing on taking it out on the Eagles. And then, of course, there was the moment when Saquon Barkley slowed down on his way to the end zone just to give Jared Verse a better look at his defense getting torched yet again by 26.
He could have snapped right there. We could have seen a broken man. But from that point forward, Jared Verse was a goddamn menace the rest of the night. The man was everywhere.
2 sacks. 5 pressures. The double thumbs down celly directed at the crowd.
If we're going to celebrate as a fanbase whenever we torment opposing players into mentally shattering on the field, then at the same time we need to give the credit to those who talk their shit and back all of it up once they get here. We can still hate Jared Verse all we want, but it's clear we're dealing with a guy here who doesn't mind being the villain. In fact, he might even play better when he's the villain. There are certain athletes who elevate their game when they know they have the entire city of Philadelphia against them. Sidney Crosby is one of those guys who comes to mind right away. Jared Verse might just be another.
