The Kings And Queens Of Corbet's Competition Is Officially Underway And The Videos Will Blow Your Goddamn Mind
I'll get to the highlights in a sec but first, some background. The "Kings and Queens of Corbet's (couloir)" competition takes place every year in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Basically the best skiers and riders in the world show up and launch themselves off a cliff into the great unknown, hoping not to die along the way. The margin for error is zero and the level of danger is 1000. I was actually in Jackson Hole a month ago and to say it's intimidating is in understatement. Most people don't even ride to the top because if you do, there are only a few ways down, one of which is Corbet's.
Here's the photo that put it on the map all the way back in 1989...
So yeah, it's "steep." Not that you'd be able to tell watching the way these kids (and some of them are literal children) ride it. Here are some highlights from this year's competition...
There's one more day of riding so we don't know who the winner is yet, but whoever it is will win a bunch of cash and even more recognition. I guess it just blows my mind having seen how steep this is that people will willingly hurl themselves off of it. Fingers crossed no one gets hurt. Happy riding, brahs!
