Decision Day: The Chiefs Are Reportedly Giving Travis Kelce A Deadline Of March 14 To Announce If He's Retiring

The one thing everyone has been alluding to is whether or not Travis Kelce is retiring. You have Rapoport saying he sounds like a man who is retiring. Louis Riddick today said this:

Even Chase Daniel echoed most of this:

Just some names speculating what's out there. But then this was written today:

[Source] - If Kelce chooses to retire, the Chiefs, as they head into an intriguing offseason, want to know of his decision around March 14, according to a team source. Based on the deadline, the Chiefs are going to give Kelce a month to decide his future.

Why March 14? Well, I know most people want to lock into the NCAA Tournament that time. But also, this is pretty important:

Kelce’s contract, which runs through next season, includes an $11.5 million roster bonus that is due March 15, according to Over The Cap. The NFL’s free agency period begins March 10.

I have no idea what he's going to do. I'm just a dumb blogger who likes to watch football. But I do find this whole aspect of the game fairly fascinating. You have a future Hall of Famer, a face of your franchise on this decision and the way he and the Chiefs got their ass kicked in the Super Bowl. Do you run it back one more time to see if it works? I'd say that aspect plays out way more often than just retiring. At the same time this report is out there:

Again, who the hell knows. You always get varying reports on this sort of story. Everyone is guessing what Kelce is going to do.

I know people are sick of him, but even the biggest Kelce/Chiefs haters gotta admit it would be weird to see Mahomes throw it to some other tight end in the playoffs. Hell, it still feels that way when Brady's calling a game and not out there. There are just guys you get used to seeing every single week, through the playoffs. Kelce is one of those. So now we have roughly a month of this story and reports coming up.
