Basketball Conference: We Got Our Annual NCAA Tournament Top-16 Bracket Reveal, SEC Dominates The Entire Field
It's that time of the year when we get a little tease, a little sign that better times are coming. A month away from the NCAA Tournament and not having snow on the ground. A month away from getting out of the winter and everyone is just happier. So here we are without football and getting our first look at the NCAA Tournament bracket.
First off, yes, this matters. Norlander pointed it out last year:
I do it this way every year, it might be a bit of rambling, but shockingly I have thoughts.
- Gotta start with this. I hate we don't get 1 full bracket reveal. If we can do a weekly top-25 for college football, why can't we see who is in the field here? We know who the best teams are. There's usually a debate about 2-3 teams here. We can figure out who the top-16 is, likely seeds, all that. Tell us who is floating near the bubble. Show us what matters for seedings. At the minimum throw in the true bubble here. Teams should know where they stand like they do in football every single week.
- The 1 seeds are right. People are going to bitch about 3 SEC teams, but welcome to 2025. The SEC is fucking loaded. Florida seems pretty easy as a pick for the last 1 seed. Auburn is the clear 1 seed and today shouldn't change that:
- Quad 1 wins matter. That's what this is showing us, at least up top. You look at the overall ranks and then the Quad 1 wins and that's how they end up there. It seems to be a tiebreaker or at the minimum the main talking point when ranking them 1-16. They also are using WAB (wins above bubble) as a new metric this year in the process. That's showing here. That's how you get Wisconsin where they are. No complaints here, you're trying to evaluate teams playing a million different schedules and nothing being even.
- Bubba Cunningham, the committee chair, said they switched Michigan and St. John's for balance in each region. That also puts St. John's in Newark against Duke in a Sweet 16. Pitino, baby. The man is inevitable.
- This feels right. You can argue someone like Michigan State or Marquette as the last team in, but it's just arguing to argue at this point. There's nothing shocking here. If you've paid attention this year, these are the teams that have sort of solidified themselves here.
- I'll take Kentucky's bracket right this second. Already beat Florida. Not scared. Very happy to be a 3 seed right now, thats where we belong on February 15.
- All I know is it feels so fucking good to see a bracket. We're close to the greatest time of the year, no matter how much it kicks me in the balls every year. Give me One Shining Moment. Give me the week leading up to the tournament where you spend too much time breaking down a bracket. Give me it all.
