I Stayed Up Way Too Late Last Night Thinking About The "Dying Alien Race" That The C.I.A. Discovered On Mars In The 1980s
Welcome to the "Stargate Project," where the CIA used an allegedly real thing called "astral projection" to spy on aliens.
No, really.
First off, "what the fuck is astral projection (or remote viewing)?" you are probably asking.
Here's a nice short video showing it-
This story of what was "viewed" on Mars isn’t some weird YouTube conspiracy theory channel. This is actually a declassified CIA document from 1984 that describes a psychic going to Mars and seeing "a dying alien race."
Honestly, if you pitched this idea to anyone who wasn’t a government agent in the 1980s, they’d tell you to lay off the mushrooms. But as Elon and the DOGE boys have shown, the CIA and USAID enjoyed nothing more than lighting money on fire, so here we are.
Back before the NSA had everybody's phones tapped, and there were satellites up in space that could zoom in to watch you pluck your nose hairs, the CIA had a couple little tools called "astral projection" and "remote viewing."
The whole point of this "remote viewing" thing was they’d give one of their trusted "psychics", who possessed the gift of astral projection, a map and be like, "Hey, think about these coordinates." And off they’d go, mentally zooming across the galaxy, without any need for an actual rocket ship or anything.
Mind you this was in the height of the Cold War, and instead of the usual “I see a shady warehouse in Russia” or “There’s a nuclear submarine,” this particular psychic found something way more interesting- a dying race of aliens on Mars.
Again, this isn't a bunch of bullshit somebody posted on 4chan or reddit.
This is directly off the CIA's declassified document section of their website. AKA FOIA land. AKA "The Reading Room".
Wait, "dying aliens? On Mars?"
Correct.
The psychic described them as “very tall, very thin” creatures
[Subject]: … I’m seeing, ah … It’s like a perception of a shadow of people, very tall … thin, it’s only a shadow. It’s as if they were there and they’re not, not there anymore.
[Monitor]: Go back to a period of time where they are there.
Sub: … Um … (mumble) It’s like I get a lot of static on a line and everything, it’s breaking up all the time, very fragmentary pieces.
Mon: Just report the data, don’t try to put things together, just report the raw data.
Sub: I just keep seeing very large people. They appear thin and tall, but they’re very large. Ah … wearing some kind of strange clothes.
These aliens were very philosophical about dying according to the documents.
The psychics didn’t stop there. They saw pyramids- because of course they did. Pyramids on Mars. A pretty crazy notion to consider back in the wild and crazy 1980s, sure. But in 2025? Not so much bub.
I found a great article that the publication Slate ran back in 2017 about this phsyic that you can read here, but in it they mentioned that during his "projection", he also observed the following -
In what follows, the conversation jumps around rapidly as the monitor directs the subject to investigate different coordinates, providing no other information. As the subject does, he describes some of the sites of interest that he notices, including a large “obelisk” that reminds him of the Washington Monument, “rounded bottom carved channels, like road beds,” and, most strikingly, “pyramids … like shelters from storms.” In those structures, he finds the shadowy people he had seen before, hibernating. “They’re an ancient people,” he tells the monitor. “They’re ah … they’re dying, it’s past their time or age.”
The 3-by-5-inch card in the sealed envelope—which, remember, supposedly went unseen until all these visions had faded—provides some clue as to what the subject was witnessing. Like the dateline of some LSD-soaked cartoon, it read,
The planet Mars.
Time of interest approximately
1 million years B.C.This is, in other words, a purportedly real record of some real intelligence service’s attempt to visit another world through astral projection while examining its distant past.
These Martians built the structures, apparently, to survive a “savage storm.”
And after all this, the psychic described the dying Martians as shadows of people, which is just the worst way to say “ghosts.”
And what did the CIA do with this groundbreaking new information? Did they send a probe? Build a spaceship? Make contact with the “dying elder race”?
Nope.
They gave up.
This is the part where you think, “Wait, this can’t be real, why would they turn off the spigot of tax dollars on a project that had legs?” but it absolutely is. The CIA shut down the Stargate Project in 1995 because, according to them, remote viewing "just wasn’t getting them the goods."
Apparently, knowing that aliens on Mars are dying and philosophical just doesn’t cut it when you need actual military intelligence.
The first thing that popped into my mind after reading all of this was the opening scene of Prometheus, for obvious reasons.
Watching that scene caused me to then pull up and watch the entire 2 hour long movie because I'm a sucker for a good rabbit hole. (I couldn't carry Jeff D. Lowe's jock strap when it comes to reviewing movies (or anything for that matter), but if you haven't seen it, it's a great Ridley Scott flick. And will really fuck your mind up.)
Here's video of your boy Joe McMoneagle describing his "remote viewing" session.
