There's Nothing Wrong With Shaming/Bullying/Busting Your Friends Chops To Get Them Where They Need To Be

I will tell you from jump street what this blog is not going to be about. It's not about my "fitness journey" or a how-to on losing weight. Why? Because it's pretty simple. Eat well. Consume less. Move more. Sorry for spoiling it for all the fitness gurus out there, but it truly is not more complicated than that. Anyone who says differently is either trying to sell you something or has zero discipline.

The fact of the matter is this; I'm 40 years old and I have a family. It is easier to eat like crap and not work out. Now, I actually have never really stopped working out since I was 13, but what I realized (duh) is that I can't eat like I used to and not see the impact.

No disrespect to Nicky Smokes, but when I was his age I once dropped 35 pounds and got shredded for no other reason than I was bored in Iraq.

So what the hell is the point of this blog? It's to say we need to bring back your friends making fun of you like you're in the locker room. I don't care if I sound like the old man yelling at a cloud, maybe the cloud needs to be yelled at a little bit. The sole reason I have recently lost a bunch of weight was because one of my best friends since I'm 5 years old came over my house and said, "Holy shit, you gotta be pushing 250!"

Ok listen, I wasn't 250 but I was big enough that it was a fair shot. I'll say it, I have a butt that won't quit and have always had thick (read:strong) thighs. I am also incredibly vain so my buddy bullying me into submission really flipped a switch. I've always possessed the discipline to do something about my weight but I chose not to for whatever reason.

I can't thank him enough because now, the after effects are that I feel better, I sleep better, and I'm a more healthy person who will live longer for my daughter and future son.

When I get raccoon boy on my side, you know I'm cooking with gas.

Sometime in the last 20 years everyone got so sensitive. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Take a joke. This isn't about making fun of your friends (even though anyone who has spent time in a locker room will tell you it's the best to bust chops). It's about holding your buddies accountable. Every now and again, we could all use a kick in the rear to get us moving in the right direction.

Speaking of the right direction --> go watch the first episode of Bold American. Please subscribe, leave a comment, and rate 5 stars. My future son needs to go to Catholic school and in New Jersey, that ain't cheap.
